This book was published in 1970, when one of the most important development in education had been the recognition by teachers of the importance of children having direct experience of the subjects they learn about. This trend was particularly marked in English and Art, where new creative approaches were readily accepted. In this book teachers are offered an approach which encourages children and young people to compose music themselves.
It consists of an introduction, together with thirty-six projects, which can be tackled at a number of different levels.
Both authors have much experience in teaching children of a wide range of practical experience in the classroom. The adcice given is straightforward and teachers are given careful help at every stage.
The book will still be of interest to those involved in music and education today.
